Release 2.1 of the Manufacturing and Engineering Training Package

Monday, April 12, 2021

Release 2.1 of the MEM Manufacturing and Engineering Training Package has now been finalised and uploaded to the national register training.gov.au.

The Manufacturing and Engineering Industry Reference Committee, with support from its Skills Service Organisation IBSA Manufacturing, has updated the training package to reflect the one-off, limited exemption to the 2012 Standards for Training Packages, as agreed by Skills Ministers in December 2020. This includes new requirements for the delivery of 13 Certificate III trade qualifications.

The revised qualifications are subject to a two-year transition, or ‘teach out’ period, ending December 2022. Skills Ministers have agreed that the exemption to the Standards will be reviewed within 12 months (i.e. by December 2023) to ensure it continues to reflect the requirements of industry, students, and training providers.

The ministerial exemption will not apply to any other training package or qualification, including other MEM Training Package qualifications.
